![]() HTEA represents about 1,400 public school employees ranging from teachers and custodians to librarians and other support staff. Hamilton school board member Richard Kanka on May 13 sent a letter to all HTEA members saying the school board would authorize annual pay bumps of 2.75 percent, 3.05 percent and 3.06 percent only if the HTEA accepts the board’s “last best and final offer” by May 31, warning them that failure to act quickly “will result in a diminished salary offer.” ![]() Ratified by the school board and HTEA in June, the new labor agreement actually falls short of what the Board of Education was willing to dole out. The Memorandum of Agreement between the Hamilton Township Education Association and the Hamilton Township Board of Education retroactively raised the base salary pool by 2.85 percent for the 2018-19 academic year to be followed by 2.8 percent salary increases for the second and third years of the three-year contract, according to a copy of the MOA obtained by The Trentonian. HAMILTON – Teachers in the Hamilton Township School District received retroactive pay raises, but the newly ratified contract would have apparently been more lucrative if the teachers union moved faster to reach a settlement.
